About our materials

About the cotton in our hammocks

Most of our hammocks are made of 100% cotton in the highest quality. The cotton is Öko-texcertified which means that its been processed in a environmentally friendly way with chemicals that can be reused or broken down without harming the environment.

Ökotexcertified hammocks

The quality of a hammock or hanging chair depends on the quality of the cotton its made of. All our cotton hammocks are made of pure, non recycled cotton with long fibres which makes it durable and hard wearing. The cotton doesn't pill.

The cotton is soft, thick and tightly woven, and have double warps by the edges (which usually are the weakest areas of the cloth).

Our hammocks are TÜV-certified which means that they have gone through hard tests in Germany. They are tested so that they should be able to take 2,5 times the recommended weight capacity. But for our warranty to be valid, you need to follow the recommendation..

Colours

Our hammocks have been tested for colour fastness. The colours will last for many years if they have been cared for in the right way. The dyes are AZO-free and environmentally friendly, well known brands such as CIBA and DYSTAR. They follow the rules of regulations of EU. Thanks to consisted optimization of the colour formula and the dyeing process all our hammock have got the high results in colour fastness tests. 4-5 for cotton hammocks and 5-6 for weather proof hammocks.

The light fastness according to ISO 105-B02 is 4-5. It shows that our products are of very high quality and will last for a long time.

The washing fastness according to ISO 105-C06 is if the hammock is washed in 30 ° C: 4-5. It will still have nice clear colours after several washes.

The wooden parts and the stands comes from certified forests in Eastern Europe and Brazil - not rainforests!

Travel hammocks

Our travel hammocks are of the highest quality. They have additional safety through welded, sewn-in loops for hanging, and stronger hanging cords than those conventionally used. The material is checked by an independent laboratory and is free of harmful AZO substances. In the King-Size-Format of 220 x 140 cm, even tall people can relax comfortably.

Nylon makes the difference

As opposed to the cheap polyester that is often used, nylon is:

* Much kinder to the skin, allowing it to breathe
* Much more comfortable, as the elastic material stretches
* Much more stable, as we use extra-strength 210 T nylon that withstood three times the maximum load in laboratory tests.

Organic hammocks and hanging chairs

Our organic hammocks and hanging chairs are 100 % ecological and 100 % comfortable. They are made of organic cotton was woven with a solid, ecru-coloured thread and have been tested and certified by the Institute for Market Ecology IMO according to the "Global Organic Textile Standard".

Care

Our hammocks are of very high quality and should last you at least 10 years if you take proper care of them. We recommended that you take in your cotton hammock during long periods of rain and the cold months of the year. That will keep your hammock looking nice and fresh. There's no problem if it will be raining on the hammock a shorter period of time. Wet hammocks can be hung on a washing line to dry faster.

If you dont want to take in your hammock you can use a hammock sock (see our accessories page) or buy a weather proof one instead. All our hammocks are incredibly durable and strong, but how long they will last will depend on how you take care of them.

The purpose of hammocks is resting, so violent playing in them could cause the lines to break after a couple of years. If you are rocking in the hammock you should avoid pulling the macramé fringes if the hammock has it.

If the hammock hangs under a tree, branches, leaves and berries might drop on it which could cause stains. You can shake the hammock if this happens, and if it still has things left, you can use a lint roller. If your hammock has stains you can use any common stain removers.

You can also wash your hammock in the washing machine. You can wash hammocks both with and without spreader bars in a washing machine on 40 c. Don't tumble dry.

If the hammock has spreader bars you can't remove the bars. You can wash it in a tub or on top of a tarpaulin and scrub the stains away. Afterwards you can let the hammock dry on a washing line.

The colours on our hammocks will last long without bleaching, but you might be able to avoid any possible bleaching through hanging the hammock in a place without direct sunshine.

Care of wooden stands

Our wooden stands are treated, but it wouldn't do any harm to put some tree oil on it once a year. This will keep them fresh and last longer. During the winter you can take the feet off so that you can put it away in your shed or garage. The stands are very easy to put together and apart. It takes about 5-10 minutes for two people to do it.
